Parallel Thimble Shoal Tunnel Groundbreaking Held

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel Commission hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the Parallel Thimble Shoal Tunnel on Monday, Sept. 18, beginning at 11:30 a.m. The event was open to the public and drew more than 100 people.

The first of two Robbins Slurry TBMs, a rebuilt 6.65 m (21.8 ft) diameter machine, passed its factory acceptance on Sept. 4, 2017, in Singapore. The machine is destined for the Mumbai Metro Line and will begin excavation in late 2017.
