Fours Teams Pre-qualified for Alaskan Way Project
The Washington State Department of Transportation announced four design-build teams qualified to submit proposals for the Alaskan Way project – a proposed tunnel to replace the aging Alaskan Way Viaduct through downtown Seattle.
According to a Seattle Times report, the groups are: AWV (Kiewit/Bilfinger Berger JV); Seattle Tunneling Group (Healy/FCC Construccion/S.A. Parsons Transportation Group/Halcrow); Vinci/Traylor/Skanska (Vinci Construction Grand Projects/ Traylor Bros./Skanska USA/ Arup); and Seattle Tunnel Partners (Dragados-USA/HNTB).
The four teams will receive a request for proposals in the spring which are to be submitted in the fall, the report said. It is estimated that the contract will be in the range of $1 billion.
The proposals, to be submitted next fall, will detail the firms' plans for completing the tunnel design, constructing a tunnel boring machine and building the tunnel, including the interior roadway, tunnel systems, ventilation buildings and portal connections. The contract is estimated at approximately $1 billion.
