AECOM Strengthens Americas Tunneling Practice
AECOM continues to strengthen its Americas Tunneling Practice with the addition of Paul Nicholas, who joined the firm as Associate Vice President Tunneling – Americas West Region.
Nicholas brings to AECOM over 25 years of experience in tunneling and microtunneling. He is transferring from AECOM India, where he has been executive director for the geotechnical team and project manager/director for several underground metro rail projects, including Delhi Metro and Kolkata Metro. The tunneling works consisted of twin bore 20-ft diameter EPB TBMs and several top-down diaphragm wall underground stations.
On the water side, Nicholas has been project manager for a major microtunneling interceptor sewer project in Delhi that included 34 km of 24- to 96-in. pipe with pump stations and associated works. Also, Nicholas was involved in a project to install 10 km of small diameter pipe (8- to 20-in.) via microtunneling in Cuttack, India.
Previously, Nicholas worked with major TBM manufacturers in the United States and Asia as Southeast Asia manager. He as project manager in China for manufacturing two 36-ft slurry TBMs and a 22-ft gripper hard rock TBM.
Nicholas also brings marketing experience and will provide strong practical and technical support to AECOM’s tunneling practice.
Nicholas has a bachelor’s degree in geology from the University of London. He has authored several papers on microtunneling and was part of the ASCE team authoring the Microtunneling Guidelines.
