Akkerman Sells MTBM to Mexico

Minnesota-based equipment manufacturer Akkerman Inc. recently sold a new microtunneling system to Grupo Covasa, a contractor in Mexico. The system includes an SL74 MTBM, with an increase kit for 86-in. OD pipe, a control container, an MT8102K keyhole jacking frame, feed and return pumps, slurry lines, cables and other ancillary equipment.

The equipment is being shipped to Mexico City for use on a project for owner La Comisión del Agua Del Estado de México (CAEM). The project is the Collector Los Reyes de La Paz, which consists of four drives to install 1.83 m ID RCP. Approximate drive lengths are 250 m for a total length of 1,100 m.

This represents the first Akkerman microtunneling system sold in Mexico. An Akkerman TBM720 is also being used on the project.
