Jacobs Associates on Evergreen Line Team

Jacobs Associates on Evergreen Line Team Jacobs Associates is part of the team that recently won the Evergreen Line Rapid Transit project in Vancouver, B.C. This win represents a strategic element of the firm’s Vancouver office expansion and adds yet another design-build project to its growing portfolio. This project teams Jacobs Associates with the largest construction and engineering company in Canada, SNC-Lavalin Inc., and for the first time with the Italian firm SELI, an internationally acclaimed underground excavation company.

Jacobs Associates’ role in the design of a 2-km bored tunnel includes segmental lining design, ground improvement and interface coordination at tunnel portals, geotechnical design services, development of an instrumentation and monitoring plan, and design support during construction. Design is already well under way as tunneling is anticipated to commence in early 2014. Other project components include elevated and at-grade guideways, seven stations, power substations, train operating systems, parking facilities, and a vehicle storage and light maintenance facility.

The Evergreen Line will link the cities of Burnaby, Port Moody and Coquitlam with an 11-km advanced light rapid transit line between Douglas College in Coquitlam and Lougheed Town Centre in Burnaby, where it will tie in with the Millennium Line. The Evergreen line is scheduled to open in the summer of 2016. Construction costs are estimated at CAD $1.4 billion. Funding is being provided by the government of British Columbia, the Government of Canada, and TransLink.
