Hatch announced in November that the Annacis Island Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Outfall Project has been named the 2025 Canadian Project of the Year (Under $300M CAD) by the Tunnelling Association of Canada (TAC).

Hatch acted as the project’s construction manager and shared the award with CDM Smith Canada, the project’s Owner’s Engineer, in collaboration with Metro Vancouver and Pomerleau Bessac General Partnership (PBGP). This prestigious national award honors project teams that demonstrate exceptional engineering skill, innovation, and a deep understanding of underground construction in Canada. The Annacis Outfall Project was selected for its technical excellence and forward-thinking design, which enhances Annacis WWTP Outfall Project resilience and environmental protection for more than one million residents in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland.

A key factor in the project’s success was the strong collaboration between Hatch, CDM Smith Canada, Metro Vancouver, and PBGP. The integrated approach ensured seamless coordination, effective problem-solving, and timely delivery of a complex and vital infrastructure project.

“We are honoured to receive this recognition from TAC. This award reflects the dedication and ingenuity of the entire project team, who worked together to deliver a solution that will serve the region for generations,” said Tim Langmaid, Senior Project Manager, Tunnels, Hatch

This award follows the project’s recent recognition with the 2025 ACEC-BC Award of Merit in the Municipal and Civil Infrastructure category, further underscoring its impact and significance in Canadian infrastructure.
