CRS, Dibco Begin Construction Under Pearson Runway

CRS Tunnelling Inc.The contract for the Twinning of Etobicoke Creek Trunk Sanitary Sewer under Runway 23 at Pearson International Airport was awarded to Dibco-CRS, A Joint Venture. The $16.9 million project for the Region of Peel/GTAA is underway, which involves the construction of 580 m of 1,800-mm ID trunk sanitary sewer underneath active operating surfaces at the airport using MTBM tunneling methods with the inclusion of compressed air intervention and access from within the MTBM.

Tunneling activities will pass underneath Taxiway H, Runway23 and Taxiway J. The MTBM will be used to cut through the mixed ground conditions primarily consisting of Georgian Bay formation shale bedrock.
