Crystal Springs Pipeline No. 2 Earns “Project of the Year Award”
Crystal Springs Pipeline No. 2 (CSPL2) earned a “Project of the Year Award” from the American Public Works Association (APWA) Northern California Chapter in the environment category for projects in the $25 million to $75 million range. This San Francisco Utility Commission project is a 19-mile long 54 and 60 inch diameter pipeline provides drinking water to 1.6 million residents and businesses throughout San Mateo County and the City and County of San Francisco. The project consisted of replacing portions of the Crystal Springs pipeline at 19 sites through Daly City, Millbrae, Burlingame, Hillsborough, and San Mateo. The primary challenge the project team faced was replacing more than three miles of pipeline that ran below one of the Bay Area’s oldest and busiest highways, El Camino Real. Jacobs Associates provided lead inspector assistance and project support as a subcontractor to HDR.
