Doig Wins Medal from Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining
Pat Doig, a Principal Project Manager with Hatch Mott MacDonald based in Sacramento, Calif., has been awarded the prestigious International Medal by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3). Doig’s paper “Shaft Construction for Civil Engineering Projects” was chosen as the best paper of the year published by an IOM3 member living outside the United Kingdom. Doig will receive his award at a dinner in London in July.
Doig has worked for HMM since 1997, mostly on tunnel projects in northern California, except for a hiatus of almost four years to work on the world’s largest tunneled sewer system in Abu Dhabi.
“Shaft Construction for Civil Engineering Projects” was Doig’s 19th published paper. In April 2012, he presented it in London at the Third International Conference on Shaft Design and Construction. Doig was chosen as keynote speaker for the event, and shared the podium at the opening session with The Rt. Hon. Nick Raynsford MP, Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Underground Space. Doig encourages young professionals to publish papers in their field, and offers to advise them or review their work before submission.
