Eric Wang Joins HNTB as Principal Tunnel Engineer

Brings significant geotechnical and underground experience to the firm

NEW YORK (March 21, 2016) – Eric Wang, PE, LEED AP, joined HNTB Corporation as principal tunnel engineer. Wang will be based in the firm’s New York office and will work with clients nationwide.

Wang has more than 27 years of geotechnical and tunneling experience, encompassing the planning, design and construction of large, multidisciplinary tunnels for mass transit, bridge and water resource projects under design-bid-build as well as design-build delivery methods. His underground design and construction background as both designer and contractor includes tunnel boring machine, drill-and-blast and roadheader experience, systems engineering management, and underground complex structures.

“Eric brings an incredibly diverse array of geotechnical and tunneling experience from the tri-state area and elsewhere,” said Nasri Munfah, PE, HNTB tunnel services practice chairman and senior vice president. “His expertise and knowledge of the region’s infrastructure will enable him to provide a wide range of solutions to HNTB clients for tunneling and underground projects.”

At HNTB, Wang’s responsibilities include investigating complex technical problems and serving as a senior technical specialist on major underground projects. He also will provide independent analysis and quality control of underground work performed by other professionals.

Prior to joining HNTB, Wang served another consulting firm as geotechnical and tunneling group leader for the New York metro region.

Wang is a member of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration, Underground Construction Association, American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Deep Foundations Institute. He earned a Master of Science in civil engineering (geotechnical) from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Additionally, Wang earned a master’s degree in mining engineering (rock mechanics) and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from McGill University in Montreal, Canada.
