Jacobs Associates Adds Five New Principals
Jacobs Associates has announced the addition of Karl Assi, David Corkum, Joel Kantola, Blake Rothfuss, and Kent Winger to the position of Principal.
Karl Assi, CPEng, was promoted to Principal and has more than 20 years of experience in tunneling and structural engineering on a wide range of transportation, water, and wastewater projects. He currently assists the Independent Certifier for the tunnel and station excavations on the North West Rail Link project in Sydney, and serves as the technical lead for cut-and-cover tunnel structures on two major infrastructure projects in Sydney and Melbourne. Assi manages the Melbourne office.
David Corkum was hired as a new Principal in February and has more than 35 years of experience in the heavy civil and underground construction industry, specializing in geology and geotechnical engineering. He has provided his construction and management expertise on some the country’s largest and most important energy and infrastructure projects. Corkum is based in Washington, D.C., and is part of the DC Clean Rivers project team, where he will be overseeing the design and construction activities.
Joel Kantola, P.E., was promoted to Principal and has more than 25 years of experience working as a program manager, contractor, designer, construction manager and geotechnical engineer on soft ground and hard rock tunnel projects for storm water, sewage, water, subway and highway tunnels. Kantola is serving as a project manager on the DC Clean Rivers’ Northeast Boundary Tunnel.
Blake Rothfuss, P.E., D.WRE, was promoted to Principal and has more than 30 years of engineering experience on heavy civil projects. He has worked on all phases of water resource projects — from planning and design, to construction, to asset assessment and management. Rothfuss is based in the Walnut Creek office and currently serves as project manager and owner’s engineer for Sacramento Municipal Utility District’s underground pumped storage project.
Kent Winger, P.E., was promoted to Principal and has more than 25 years of experience providing construction dispute resolution, scheduling, and contractor performance analysis consulting services. He is skilled at claims preparation and analysis as well as strategic claims avoidance, and is based in the San Francisco office. Currently, Winger is involved in the preparation for arbitration and trial of several general contractor claims involving building construction projects.
