NEORSD Awards Big Creek Tunnel to Granite-Super JV
The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District‘s Board of Trustees on Aug. 20 approved the award of the Big Creek Tunnel project to Granite-Super JV. Granite-Super JV was the lowest of four bidders at $324,821,130.00.
The Big Creek Tunnel project is the last of the district’s seven major tunnel projects as part of Project Clean Lake, a $3 billion, 24-year program to improve water quality in the region.
The Big Creek Tunnel includes more than 4 miles of 20-ft diameter rock tunnel, 50 to 100 ft beneath Cleveland, Linndale and Brooklyn. The tunnel system will capture and store sanitary sewage and stormwater from 11 CSO outfalls, reducing annual discharges by 550 million gallons. Collectively, Project Clean Lake will reduce CSO discharges by 4.5 billion gallons annually. Construction of the Big Creek Tunnel is expected to begin this fall and continue through 2031.
In addition to the main tunnel, the Big Creek Tunnel project includes the construction of six tunnel shafts, consolidation sewers, and gate and screening structures.
