At 57.5 ft in diameter, the SR 99 tunneling machine’s green, red and yellow cutterhead is by far its most iconic piece. On Sunday, April 7, crews offloaded the cutterhead from the Jumbo Fairpartner, the ship that carried the machine from Osaka, Japan, to Seattle. It was lowered from the ship to a special, flatbed truck with 96 axles and nearly 800 tires that transported it to a storage area within the construction site.
