Turkish Tunneling Society Honors Ozdemir

The Turkish Tunneling Society bestowed its Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr. Levent Ozdemir at the recent 2015 Tunnel Expo Conference in Istanbul. The award is for making significant contributions to the advancement of Mechanized Tunneling Industry.
Ozdemir is president of Ozdemir Engineering Inc., which provides consulting services to the tunneling industry worldwide in all aspects of mechanical tunneling. Ozdemir is also a past professor at the Colorado School of Mines (1977-2009), where he taught numerous courses in Department of Mining in the areas of mechanical hard rock and soft ground/soil tunneling, raise boring and shaft drilling, design and construction of underground structures, geotechnical site investigations, excavation project management, microtunneling, rock mechanics and underground mining.
Ozdemir is course director/co-director for the Tunneling Short Course, Microtunneling Short Course and Ground Improvement Short Course, held annually in Golden, Colorado. Ozdemir is native of Turkey.
Also receiving awards were Dr. Nick Barton for his contributions to the field of Rock Mechanics and Dr. Guner Gurtunca for his contributions to Mine Safety.
