VMT Launches CT.Connected Module for Conventional Tunneling

Conventional Tunneling still relies heavily on pen-and-paper documentation and the subsequent manual
transfer of information into Excel. Reliable, permanent data is the basis for effective project management,
transparent processes and further digitalization. At the same time, increasing requirements for
sustainable and resource-efficient tunnel construction underline the need for transparency enabled by
digitalization and automation.

Driven by market needs, VMT introduces the first software module for Conventional Tunneling within the
Herrenknecht.Connected data management platform: CT.Connected – a smart tool that captures and
processes work-cycle data in Conventional Tunnelling projects. It tracks the times and parameters of
processes and provides analysis based on cycles or shifts. The goal is to replace pen and paper with a
fully digital, real-time documentation tool for conventional tunnelling and to enable accurate, permanent
data collection directly in the tunnel.

Data is entered via an app on any available mobile device such as a smartphone or tablet without the
need for additional equipment. The system records activities, personnel, equipment and consumables,
and allows metadata such as photos and comments to be added for direct documentation and activity-based communication among stakeholders. All entries are synchronized via the cloud in real time,
allowing multiple users in different locations to work simultaneously with the same up-to-date data.

CT.Connected supports continuous verification of work processes through Gantt charts and provides
intuitive dashboards with KPIs at a glance, including the visualization of best-practice KPIs as
benchmarks. Project structures can be configured flexibly to map any project, regardless of size or other
factors. Completed project data sets can be archived for future insights and improvements as well as
security in case of claims.

The new module integrates conventional tunneling data into the same familiar environment as TBM data.
It creates a reliable digital foundation for documentation and analysis, supporting transparency and laying the groundwork for future assistance systems and automation in conventional tunneling operations.
