World Tunnel Congress 2016 Reaches New Heights
The World Tunnel Congress, held April 22-28 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, established a new attendance record with more than 2,300 attendees, according to conference organizers. The event – themed “Uniting the Industry” – also featured a packed exhibition hall and a full slate of technical presentations highlighting projects, technology and trends from around the globe.
The 2016 World Tunnel Congress was the first time in 20 years the event has been held in the United States, when it was held in Washington, D.C. The last time it was held in North America was 2010 in Vancouver, British Columbia. The event was organized by the Underground Construction Association of SME in conjunction with the International Tunneling Association.
The event took the place of the North American Tunneling Conference, which will return to its biennial schedule in 2018. The next U.S. tunneling conference is the Rapid Excavation and Tunneling Conference, June 4-7, 2017.
World Tunnel Congress 2017 will be held in Bergen, Norway, June 9-15.
