Tennessee, Boring Company Announce Agreement for Nashville Tunnel
The State of Tennessee and The Boring Company (TBC) on July 28 announced their intent to partner on a private transportation project that would connect downtown Nashville and the Convention Center to the Nashville International Airport, according to a TBC press release.
According to the release, the project – which TBC is calling the Music City Loop – will be fully funded by The Boring Company and its private partners. There are no details regarding specifics of the project, including the alignment, although TBC reports that tunnels will be under state-owned roadways. According to TBC, the July 28 announcement “kicks off a public process to evaluate potential routes, engage community stakeholders, and finalize plans for the project’s initial 10-mile phase.” TBC plans to start construction immediately following approvals.
TBC reports that the system will use zero-emission vehicles to transport passengers. At the Las Vegas Convention Center, tunnels built by TBC use electric passenger vehicles to transport passengers. TBC reports that the system could be expanded after construction of the initial route.
