COWI North America Adds Tunneling Capability with Jenny Acquisition

On Jan. 1, 2013, COWI North America purchased the shares of Jenny Engineering Corp. (JEC). JEC is an internationally recognized tunnel engineering firm specializing in the planning, design and construction management of tunnels and underground structures. Jenny Engineering Corp. will continue to operate as Jenny Engineering Corp.

JEC is globally experienced working on a variety of tunnel projects, such as transit, highway, water, utility, sewer and drainage, pedestrian, and mines. JEC’s office is located in Springfield, N.J., and includes 30 staff performing engineering and support services for tunneling projects. The merger with COWI strengthens JEC’s position as a leader in tunnel engineering in North America. JEC’s Springfield, N.J., headquarters becomes COWI’s North American center of excellence for tunnel engineering. JEC also joins COWI’s international tunneling practice, and will join with COWI’s Copenhagen-based tunnel engineering team to pursue and execute projects outside of North ­America.

Gerwick Inc.; COWI North America Energy Inc.; and Jenny Engineering Corp. COWI North America companies will continue to operate under their existing brands and management teams. COWI presently employs over 300 staff in 15 U.S. and Canadian offices.

Globally, COWI employs over 1,000 bridge tunnel and marine specialist staff, and is busy engineering some the world’s largest infrastructure projects.
