PB Selected for Indy’s Lower Pogues Run Tunnel
Citizens Energy Group has selected Parsons Brinckerhoff to provide professional engineering services consisting of development of an Advanced Facility Plan Report under an initial phase and providing the Detailed Design, under a subsequent phase, for the Lower Pogues Run Tunnel Project (LPgRT) located in downtown Indianapolis, Ind.
The notice to proceed was issued to Parsons Brinckerhoff on Aug. 16, 2013. The Lower Pogues Run Tunnel is one of six major components of the planned 25-mile deep rock storage tunnel system, federally mandated and intended to capture and convey combined sewage overflows (CSOs) for treatment at the principal wastewater treatment plant in Indianapolis. The current concept for this project includes approximately 2 miles of 18-ft diameter deep rock tunnel that will receive flows from six existing primary CSO outfall structures located in downtown Indianapolis. Also included in this project is the low impact development of three sub-basins with the use of green infrastructure methods and techniques.
The Lower Pogues Run Tunnel is part of a 25-mile system that will collect CSOs from watersheds covering the greater Indianapolis area. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2013. The second phase is expected start up before the beginning of 2014 and be completed by the end of 2015.
The project will be managed by the Geotechnical & Tunneling Technical Excellence Center of Parsons Brinckerhoff with the support of civil/site staff from PB’s Indianapolis Office and the firm’s water resources group
