TERRATEC Marks Busy 2016-17
In the first half of the year, TERRATEC has secured orders for the supply of seven tunnel boring machines around the globe, including Turkey, Thailand and India. The orders are as follows:
TURKEY
After the good performance of the EPBM delivered by TERRATEC two years ago for the section “Mecidiyekoy – Mahmutbey” of Istanbul Metro, the joint venture formed by Turkish companies Senbay, Kolin and Kalyon has ordered two new EPBMs from TERRATEC for the construction of the new section in the city between Dudulli and Bostasnci. The machines are almost identical to the previous one, two 6.56-m OD earth pressure balance shields with mixed cutterhead, which has proven to excavate very smoothly through Istanbul’s mixed geology. The TBMs are currently under production and will complete the factory tests in the last quarter of 2016.

THAILAND
The Metropolitan City of Bangkok keeps expanding its services network, therefore more cables and water tunnels are being constructed. To support the execution of these tunnels, TERRATEC will supply a 3.20-m OD EPB TBM for the Pra Khanong Cable Tunnel Project to Thai contractor Nawarat Patanakarn PCL. The machine will be delivered at factory in September later this year. In addition, two sets of 5.70-m OD EPB TBMs will be delivered to Sino-Thai Engineering & Construction PCL for the Nong Bon Drainage Project. These two machines will be delivered on the first quarter of 2017.
INDIA
TERRATEC has secured the order for the supply of two 6.52-m OD EPB TBMs for the construction of the Lucknow Metro Contract LKCC-06. The contractor, a JV between TATA Projects of India and Gulermak of Turkey, selected TERRATEC to supply these two machines. The good performance of the machines that the company has delivered in India and the good experience by Gulermak with TERRATEC TBMs were key factors on the decision. The TBMs will be classic earth pressure balance shields to excavate in soil, similar to the ones which excavated successfully the section CC-34 of Delhi Metro. The machines are expected to commence the works in early 2017.

Some more TBM orders are being finalized and, together with several orders for the company’s other product lines (raise boring machines, microtunneling TBMs and conveyors), ensure that TERRATEC will continue to be very busy along 2017.
