Brierley Associates Appoints Regional Managers

Brierley Associates announced the appointment of three new regional managers as part of the company’s re-structuring to accommodate recent growth and success. These individuals were selected for their leadership qualities to help manage and foster the momentum and growth that Brierley Associates has enjoyed during the past few years.

Jay Perkins, PE, Eastern Regional Manager: Perkins’ career spans more than 30 years and through his tenure he has designed, managed and completed a variety of underground projects at the local, national and international levels. Technical experience encompasses: geotechnical investigations and instrumentation programs; design of deep foundation systems for commercial, institutional and industrial buildings; wastewater treatment facilities and tower structures. Perkins is well versed in design of temporary excavation support and dewatering systems, evaluation of earth embankment dams and slopes, landfills and cutoff walls. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire and is based in the Cambridge, Mass., office.

Robin Dornfest, PG, CPG, Central Regional Manager: Dornfest specializes in engineering geology and geotechnical engineering aspects of water and wastewater, dams, oil and gas, transportation, aggregate and hard rock mining, slope stability, tunnels, trenchless and water supply projects. During his 15-year career he has provided third-party reviews, as well as serving as an expert witness. Dornfest has served as the first President of the Northern Section of the Colorado Association of Geotechnical Engineers (CAGE), and is currently a CAGE Board Member and is on the Executive Committee and Treasurer for the Northern Colorado Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Dornfest is a registered Professional Geologist in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska and Wyoming, as well as a Certified Professional Geologist. He is based in the Fort Collins, Colo., office.

Alan L. Howard, PG, CEG, Vice President/Western Regional Manager: Howard is one of the founding partners of Brierley Associates and just completed a multi-year assignment on the highly successful Caldecott 4th Bore Tunnel Project in the Berkeley Hills, Calif. He opened the company’s first California office in 2010 and helped negotiate the strategic merger with Berti Lindquist Consulting Engineers shortly thereafter. Howard has more than 32 years of experience in engineering geology and hydrogeology, including field experience on a wide variety of projects throughout the United States and overseas. He is a specialist in subsurface investigations and geotechnical instrumentation for tunneling, trenchless, geo-structural and other civil engineering and underground/mining projects. Howard is a registered Professional Geologist and Certified Engineering Geologist in California. He is based in Moraga, Calif.
