Elizabeth River Tunnels On-the-Job Training Program Recognized

ert trainingOn May 2, the Elizabeth River Tunnels (ERT) Project partners celebrated with On-the-Job Training (OJT) Program graduates who successfully completed their craft requirements. During the SKW Constructors JV (SKW) Safety Week kick-off meeting, the OJT graduates were recognized and presented with program completion certificates and letters of commendation from U.S. Sens. Tim Kaine and Mark Warner honoring their achievement.

It is projected that 86 students will successfully complete the OJT Program by the end of ERT Project construction, exceeding the original 70-graduate requirement. Program emphasis is placed on local employment – 73% of the OJT Program students reside in Hampton Roads, 60.5% of students are minorities and 17.4% are female.

The ERT Project’s OJT Program ensures that a skilled workforce is ready to meet local construction needs, now and in the future. Operating year-round, the OJT Program offers apprenticeship and skilled training for a wide range of positions in an effort to move veterans, women, minorities and economically disadvantaged individuals into journey-level positions.

Headquartered in Portsmouth, Virginia, Elizabeth River Crossings OpCo, LLC, is the private partner of the Virginia Department of Transportation for the design, construction, finance, operations and maintenance of the Elizabeth River Tunnels (ERT) Project, with SKW Constructors JV (a Skanska, Kiewit, Weeks Marine Joint Venture) as design-build contractor.
